Hannah Smith joined FAU in October 2022, transitioning from her PhD program at Princeton University, where she worked under the guidance of Prof. Antoine Kahn as her advisor. Specifically, she brings her valuable expertise in Materials and Devices to our team. With an outstanding academic background, Hannah’s expertise has matured and thrived over years of dedicated research and academic accomplishments.

During her time in Princeton, Hannah’s research was supported by prestigious grants, including the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, the Francis Robbins Upton Fellowship in Engineering, and the Dean’s Grant from Princeton University.

Prior to her tenure at Princeton, Hannah conducted research at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, under the supervision of Dr. Oana Jurchescu.

Currently, at FAU, Hannah is working as an Indepent Researcher alongside Prof. Christoph Brabec, contributing her expertise to our Materials Science and Engineering Department.

Hannah Smith’s research primarily focuses on the electrical doping of organic semiconductors using molecular dopants to enhance their electrical conductivity and charge transport properties. This work is particularly significant for improving the performance of wide bandgap organic semiconductors used as charge transport layers in various devices, given their inherently insulating nature.

Throughout her research journey, Hannah has gained extensive expertise in various techniques, with a special emphasis on photoelectron spectroscopy. This technique enables her to precisely determine the band structure and the position of the Fermi level in doped semiconductors through ultraviolet and inverse photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS and IPES).

Hannah Smith is actively applying her expertise to support FAU Solar, particularly in the areas of Materials and Devices. Her goal is to contribute to the development of sustainable and efficient solar energy technologies, using her deep knowledge and experience to advance our projects.
