FAU Profile Center Solar

The FAU Profile Center Solar is a driving force for future research in solar energy systems, innovation and relevant future-oriented research. It aims to accelerate the development of printable semiconductors to overcome the limitations of solar energy conversion.

Solar energy conversion is a leading solution in the fight against climate change while maintaining economic prosperity. However, serious bottlenecks in performance, versatility, and recycling are impeding rapid expansion. A radical paradigm shift is needed, requiring a multi-parameter, multi-objective optimization strategy, including the development of a digital twin for solar energy conversion systems. This strategy will enable breakthroughs that exceed current limitations. The FAU Solar Profile Center is dedicated to scientific excellence in research and education, combining strengths in engineering, science, data science, and economics.

Profile Centers shape the research profile of FAU with a wide range of cutting-edge research projects. An overview of all FAU profile, research and competence centers can be found on the FAU Research profile website.

Controlling the Flow of Charges across Phthalocyanine@Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Interfaces
Controlling the Flow of Charges across Phthalocyanine@Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Interfaces The Guldi Group published a new paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) addressing the directional control of interfacial charge transfer in molecular semiconductor heterostructures. The key process in solar-to-X conversions is charge separation across interfaces, as occurs within the silicon pn junction…

FAU Schlossgartenfest 2026, dem schönsten und einem der größten Sommergartenfesten in Europa.
The FAU Profilecenter Solar station at this year’s Schlossgartenfest proved to be a very popular stop along the Wissensparcours, drawing a steady stream of curious visitors throughout the evening. At the centre of the exhibit stood a miniature racing track where guests could pit their skills against one another – not with conventional remote controls,…

Dirk Guldi at ICPP 14 in Kyoto
Professor Dirk Guldi presented the invited lecture “Exciton Migration in Porphyrinic Systems” at the 14th International Conference on Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (ICPP-14), held from June 28 to July 3, 2026, at the Kyoto Terrsa Conference Center in Kyoto, Japan. Organized by the Society of Porphyrins & Phthalocyanines, ICPP is one of the leading international meetings…

Visit our Solar Car Raceway at the FAU’s Schlossgartenfest June 27th, 2026
Experience the transformation of light into energy firsthand. These miniature solar racing cars are powered and controlled solely by light, without the need for a conventional controller. By skilfully directing the lamps, you can steer your car along the track and compete with fellow visitors for the fastest time. This hands-on activity not only offers…
